IDENTITY
We center Black women and girls in experiences that make space for them to explore, affirm, and celebrate who they are. We believe identity deserves to be explored on their own terms and that culturally responsive spaces can help people feel seen, valued, and understood.
What’s Your Hairstory?:
A Drama Therapeautic Exploration and Understanding of Hair Autonomy Through the Lens of Character and Role
What’s Your Hairstory?
What’s Your Hairstory? is Alayna Hester Creative’s signature experiential workshop and program exploring the relationship between hair, identity, culture, and self-expression. Centered in the lived experiences of Black women and girls, the experience invites participants to reflect on the personal stories, memories, messages, and meanings connected to their hair.
Through creative exploration, storytelling, drama therapeutic practices, and community connection, participants are encouraged to examine how hair has shaped the way they see themselves and how they move through the world. What’s Your Hairstory? creates space for participants to celebrate, question, reclaim, and share the stories woven into their identity—because sometimes, our hair tells a story long before we ever say a word.
